When Baker yearns for something more, she finds that the Christian message helps her to resolve suffering on a deeper level. One reason for writing was to show that it is possible to integrate Christian belief with one's Jewish identity.

Living in the same Jewish community of her birth, she faced challenges. In fact, the day she told her dad, he said, "At least if you're younger, I could put you over my knee and spank you."

At 37, she had insulted her Jewish family and every generation proceeding them. Over the years, she has balanced issues related to group loyalty, identity politics and family.
